The St. Bernard News is in serious need of a proofreader. Former candidate for Parish President Clay Cosse has an ad in this weeks edition with the headline "It has been an Honor or Serve You!"

It is very obvious that this is not what Mr. Cosse was trying to say, and that is without reading the text of his ad. But, perhaps it plays into the hand that Managing Editor of the St. Bernard News, Joe Chambers, is trying to play.

In last weeks edition of the News, he published a small ad stating the news "goofed" with "four grammatical errors were made in the advertisement for Mr. Fred Everhardt Jr. in the Oct. 1 edition" of the News. Mr. Everhardt's ad was not the only ad with error as I stated in my October 4 email. Now, Mr. Chambers is using full size prominent ad space to "correct" errors.

In todays edition, is a full-size notice that "errorneous information was printed in an advertisement place by Harvey Encardes in the Oct. 1 edition of the News." If you don't remember the ad, here are my comments about the ad from the October 4th email again:

----
The second ad, paid for by Harvey Encardes, is primarily a reprint of ad
Wolfe ran in 1999 against Lynn Dean. The ad is clearly negative against
Wolfe, but on an underlying area could be negative against Dean also. With
the criticism Wolfe had against Dean four years ago, why are the two of them
so cozy today? Something has changed between the two of them, but what?
Unfortunately, I don't think we will find out before the election tomorrow,
if ever.

Apparently, Wolfe must have known about the ad being placed by the
Vaccarella family, since he has a half-page rebuttal ad with testimonials
from six of his current and former employees. You can see this ad on Wolfe's
web site at:
http://www.scottwolfe.com/articles/articles.php?key=11
----

In the notice this week, Mr. Chambers states the June 16, 1999 ad that was reprinted was corrected on July 7, 1999. I'm really starting to wonder if anything published within the St. Bernard News is correct or not. It also makes you wonder why it takes three weeks to print a correction? Of course, this could just be a prime case of "you get what you pay for."

Two local candidate debates today. The first, hosted by the St. Bernard Chamber of Commerce, will be 11:30 AM at the Tiffany Room. The cost is $16 and includes lunch. Call Peggy Bourgeois at 289-4653 to make reservations as seating is very limited.

The second debate will be at 7:00 PM tonight, hosted by the Alliance for Good Government, will be in the Parish Council Chambers and broadcast on the Government Access channel (6) on Cox Cable.

Be good to yourself,
