Bayham Attacks State GOP Chairman
Outgoing St. bernard Parish Mike Bayham has sent a letter to all 231 members of the State Republican Central Committee asking for the resignation of State Party chairman Pat Brister.
Bayham contends that the Party has failed under her leadership, losing numerous state elections and that she has failed to follow the wishes of the Central Committee, specifically citing her failure to file a central-committee approved plan for redrawing the committee's election districts with the Secretary of State.
Brister, who came to power four years ago, replacing embattled former chairman Mike Francis, counters "that group has been out of power for four years, and they want it back."
Blaming the attacks on "internal politics," Brister has stated that she has no intention of stepping down and will run again for a committee seat. She has not confirmed if she will run for the chairmanship again.
