Fire at Home Depot in Chalmette
St. Bernard Firefighters responded to a blaze at the Home Depot store in Chalmette, LA this morning. The call was received at 11:08 AM and the first unit was on the scene at 11:09 AM.
According to Fire Chief Tommy Stone, the preliminary investigation indicates the blaze started in a roof top air-conditioning unit. It burst through a skylight and spread to merchandise on a rack.
The roof sustained heavy damage in the blaze which took firefighters 35 minutes to bring under control.
Chief Stone commented the store manager on duty did a fantastic job ensuring all customers and employees were vacated from the building safely.
