Catching Up

It's been a while since my last post and there's quite a bit to catch up on.

For starters, if you haven't seen it in the Times-Picayune, the St. Bernard Voice, or the St. Bernard News, I've been selected as a charter member of Senator Walter Boasso's Senate Advisory Committee for St. Bernard Parish.

Senator Boasso has decided to form an Advisory Committee in St. Bernard, Plaquemines, and St. Tammany parish to help him stay abreast of the issues that concern his constituents and their opinions of those issues.
The St. Bernard Committee has 18 members who represent a diverse mix of the population within St. Bernard. No member of the committee knows and understands all the issues the concern St. Bernard, but the hope is that there are several people on the committee that are knowledgeable about any subject that should come up and will be able to inform the rest of the Committee as well as Sen. Boasso.

The Committee is strictly an advisory committee and nothing the Committee does or says reflects the opinions or will cause a binding action upon Sen. Boasso.
The Committee will meet roughly once a month when the state legislature is not in session and more frequently when in session.

In other news regarding Sen. Boasso, in his first legislative session, he has made a name for himself and has been a fantastic representative of St. Bernard.

If you haven't been following the news, Sen. Boasso has been one of the leading forces driving the restructuring of how state river pilots are regulated. He has held a public hearing on the impact of foreign shrimp on La. shrimpers. A forum on education has been planned for Friday, June 25 at 11:00 AM in the St. Bernard Parish Council Chambers. State Education Superintendent Cecil Picard has committed to attending the forum. Other members of the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education have been invited.

Although I have given my support to Craig Romero for the Louisiana District 3 Congressional race, see this post, you can meet one of his challengers Wednesday, June 24. Charmine Degruise Caccoppi will have a meet and greet at Boasso America at 7:00 PM. Please note, although the gathering will be held at Boasso America, Sen. Boasso is not endorsing Mrs. Caccoppi or anyone else. He is simply allowing her to use his facilities.

Be good to yourself,
